Fressingfield Parish Church, Suffolk, England
The Parish Church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul, built on the site of an earlier church, has workmanship showing which dates from circa 1320. The church is particularly noted for the beautiful carving on the ends of the medieval benches and for the Passion bench. The roof is supported by one of Suffolk's famous single hammer beam structures. In the south aisle is a portrait of Archbishop Sancroft, Fressingfield's most famous son. He was Master of Emmanuel College, Cambridge, Dean of Saint Paul's and was responsible for its' rebuilding after the Great Fire of London and was occupant of the Tower for his views. His tomb is in the churchyard of the village he loved and where he spent his retirement. The lovely church is full of light and is of architectural and historic interest.
