Gay Boatright, 95, of Sand Ridge, died Wednesday, Oct. 14, 1998, in Roane General Hospital, following a long illness. He was born in Calhoun County and was a former employee of Calhoun Super Service for many years and was a former Calhoun County Circuit Clerk with 18 years service. Surviving are two daughters, Paula Price of Barberton, Ohio, and Betty Norman of Norton, Ohio; six sons, Pete, Roy and Jack Boatright, all of Norton, Calvin Boatright of Sand Ridge, Jim Boatright of Clinton, Ohio, and Odell Boatright of Barberton; two sisters, Ethel O'Brion and Bethel Harris, both of Barberton; 17 grandchildren; 35 greatgrandchildren; and three great-great-grand-children. Vaughn Boatright, 88, of Pennsboro, Sugar Run Community, died Wednesday, Mar. 23, 1994, near his residence of an apparent heart attack. He was born in Calhoun County, a son of the late James S. and Almeda Lynch Boatright. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served in Europe. He was a driller in the oil fields, worked for Weirton Steel for many years, and owned and operated Town Tavern, Pennsboro.
Surviving are one son, Glen Boatright of Pennsboro; one daughter, Vonetta Lanham of Pennsboro; two sisters, Ethel Harris and Bethel O'Brien, both of Barberton, Ohio; and one grandson. He was preceded in death by seven brothers; one sister, and three grandchildren.
Services were held at McCullough-Rogers Funeral Home, Pennsboro, with evangelist Terry Jones officiating. Burial was in Gnats Run Cemetery, near Pennsboro.

Robert Lloyd "Bob" Boatwright, 74, a resident of Beverly, departed his earthly life to be reunited with his Heavenly Father and other family members waiting on him at 4:50 p.m. Friday, June 23, 2006, at his residence. He had been in failing health,
Born in March of 1932, at Morgantown, he was the son of the late Marion S. and Ida Alice Harris Boatwright.
On Feb. 11, 1972, he was united in marriage to the former Barbara Jean Jones, who survives at Beverly.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Cathy Jean Harris of Sanford, Fla. and Elena Ross and husband, Mike, who made their home with her parents; three sons, Robert Boatwright Jr. and wife, Tina, of Modesto, Calf., Mark Boatwright and companion, Cindy, of Marina, Calf. and and Gary Boatwright of Beverly, where he made his home with his parents. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Clayton and Travis Boatwright, Cristina and Joshua Boatwright, Shawn and Shannon Harris and Jessica Ross; six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
Bob was the last surviving member of his immediate family having been preceded in death by a son-in-law, Brian Harris; two sisters, Blanch Bonnett and Florence Coberly; two brothers, Brooks and Harold Boatwright; and one half sister, Gladys Harris.
Bob was a graduate of Morgantown High School with the class of 1950. He attended Cabrills College in Aptos, Calf. He and his family lived in the Monterey Peninsula of California from 1962 until 1990. Retiring in 1989, he and his family moved back to West Virginia in 1990. Bob was a grocery clerk and managed several different stores. Bob was employed by Mountaineer Mart in Norton as manager. He then worked for Wamsley's Service Station as office manager. Bob loved his cat, Cassie, who stayed right with him, laying beside him on the bed, especially in the last four months when Bob's condition worsened. He was a Protestant by faith and loved spending time with his family. He also liked to bowl, work crossword puzzles and play pinnacle. Bob was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be greatly missed by those who loved him and will remain in their heats forever.
At the request of the deceased, the remains were cremated. A private service of remembrance and celebration of Bob?s life will be held at a later date.
The family would like to express their appreciation and gratitude for the loving care and support to Hospice Care, especially to Pam and Leslie, Dr. Corder, Pastor Charles Stanley and our church family of the Valley Independent Church, and the staff of Davis Memorial Hospital's Home Health and Respiratory Care.

The rescue allowed the prisoners to tell of the death march and prison camp atrocities, which sparked a new rush of resolve for the war against Japan. The rescuers were awarded commendations by MacArthur, and were also recognized by President Franklin D. Roosevelt. A memorial now sits on the site of the former camp, and the events of the raid have been depicted in several films.

Funeral Services for Charles Boatwright, 76, of Shady Cove, will be held Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. in the Ashland Mortuary chapel with Rev. Leo Wine of Faith Tabernacle officiating. Committal will be in Mountain View cemetery. Mr. Boatwright died Sunday in a Medford hospital.
Mr. Boatwright was a native of Gentry County, Missouri, where he was born May, 24 1881. On April 13, 1945, he married Mary Weeks who survives. He came to Oregon in 1943, locating at Talent where he lived for five years before moving to Shady Cove, which has been his home until the time of his death.
Survivors in assition to his widow are six daughters: Mrs. Sadie Miller, Mrs. Florance Gage and Mrs. Grace Obannion, all of Standsburry, Mo.: Mrs. Ester Crow, Phoenix; Mrs. Dorthy Morris, and Mrs. Morine Taylor, both of Ashland; seven sons: Jack and Robert L., of Ashland; Dick E., Charles V., and Frank H., all of Gold Beach and Wilbur D., and A. Wayne, both of Shady Cove; three step-daughters: Mrs. Catherine McCoy, Midway Calif., Mrs. Lorraine Brotzman, Westminster, Calif., and Helen Hawkins, Medford; a step-son Donald Hoodenpyle, Cloverdale, Calif., and 15 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.

Bertha M. Alcock
Funeral Service for Bertha M. Alcock, 90, who died Wednesday in an Ashland nursing home,
will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday in the Litwiller Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Scenic
Hills Memorial Park, with her son Jack Boatwright, officiating.
She was born Nov. 25, 1887 in Buffalo, Mo., and moved to Ashland in 1943 from Stanberry, Mo. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles Boatwright, and then she later married Victor Alcock, who survives. She was a member of the Pentalcostal Church of God of Ashland. She worked as a nurses aid in the Ashland area for many years.
Besides her husband, Victor, and son, Jack, of Phoenix, she is survived by three sons, Dick Boatwright, Coos Bay; Frank Boatwright, Oroville, Calif., two daughters, Ester Crow, Fort Bragg, Calif., and Dorothy Morris, Oroville: three brothers, Alva Garrett, Lee Garrett and Lester Garrett, and one sister, all of Oklahoma City Okla.; 17 grandchildren; 13 greatgrandchildren, and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

Walter Enoch Boatright, 85, a former resident of Stanberry, died last Thursday at the Hand Community Hospital in Shenandoah, Iowa. a few hours after he had been admitted to the hospital. He had been in failing health for the past five years. Mr. Boatright was a brother of Mrs. Ethel Phillips of Stanberry.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Bentz & Tanzer Funeral Home in Shenandoah, conducted by the Rev. Howard Walkein. Burial was in the Chamberlin cemetery north of Farragut, Iowa.
Mr. Boatright , who was 85 years three months and 14 days old at the time of his death, was the son of the late Samuel Boatright and was born at Alanthus Grove on March 3, 1886. He moved to Iowa when he was 18 years old and he never returned.
He and the late Miss Lena Gurmer were united in marriage in February, 1909. She preceded him in death in 1953. Five children were born to the union. They were Mrs. Lela Hoy, Miss Ruth Boatright and Sam Boatright, Jr. all of Shenandosh, Mrs. Erma Phillips of Kansas City and Mrs. Edith Tyson of Council Bluffs.
He is also survived by another sister, Mrs. Carl Wiley of Tacoma WA, and by 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death were two brothers two sisters and three grandchildren.
He also leaves many friends to mourn his death. He was a good neighbor and friend.

Lulu Ethel Boatwright, the daughter of James and Ellen Jennings, was born near Alanthus Grove, MO on February 26, 1898. She died at the Gentry County Memorial Hospital February 10, 1985 at the age of 86.
She was a member of the Alanthus Baptist Church and a charter member of the Alanthus Community Club.
She was married to John F. Boatwright on June 6, 1917. To this union were born seven children, six of whom survive. Lulu was preceded in death by her son, Marvin Wilbur, who died April 23, 1973.
John and Lulu spent all of their married life in the Alanthus community farming and operating the Worth Mutual Telephone Company. John died on February 28, 1954. After his death, Lulu continued to operate the switchboard until the company was dissolved in 1960. She then moved to Stanberry, where she resided until her death.
Lulu is survived by three daughters, Verna Ellen Simmons, Kansas City, MO, Ila M. Motzkus, DeSoto, KS, and Ruby Gregory, Stanberry, MO; three sons, Leland B. Boatwright, Carthage, MO, John A. Boatwright, Forth Worth Texas, and Jerry L. Boatwright, Stanberry: one sister Iva M. Bremer, Gentry, MO; 24 grand children, and 42 great-grandchildren, along with numerous nieces and nephews and many friends.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 12 at the Johnson Funeral Home in Stanberry, the Rev. Dick Lionberger officiating. Burial was in Jennings Cemetery near Alanthus Grove.

Ed Boatright, former Gentry County resident, of late a well known resident and auctioneer of Grant City, Died in a motor car Tuesday afternoon in Parnell.
A dispatch to the St. Joseph News-Press of last evening says: "He was on his way home from a sale at Maryville. Between Parnell and Ravenwood he told friends that he felt very strange and then had an attack. His friend drove him to Dr. E. Croeson's office in Parnell. The first attack seemed to subside and another came, resulting in death."
Mr. Boatright is survived by his daughter, Miss Wilda Boatright of Grant City; his father, Samuel Boatright of Alanthus; two brothers, Walter and Randolph of Iowa; and John of Alanthus, and three sisters, Mrs. Ethel Phillips of Stanberry; Mrs. Annis Lewis of Alanthus, and Mrs. Opal Richards of Stanberry.
Services will be held at the Baptist church in Alanthus Thursday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Jesse Cunningham of the First Baptist church of Grant City.

Wm. Edwin Boatwright, the son of Samuel and Sarah M. Boatwright, was born near Alanthus, MO, on October 7, 1896, and departed his life at Parnell, MO on April 27, 1937, at 3:10 o'clock of heart trouble. He was 40 years , six months and 20 days old at the time of his death.
In company with Gordon Fletchall Mr. Boatwright had been to Maryville to attend a sale. When they were near Parnell, he became suddenly ill and told his companion he was near death and told him goodbye and to be good.
He was converted when young man and united with the Church of Christ at Alanthus. He was united in marriage to Miss Edna Hill on August 5, 1915, and Mrs. Boatwright died on June 16, 1916.
He answered the call of his country on May 2, 1917 and served in the army until honorably discharged on January 28, 1919. He was then united in marriage to Miss Martha Gilliland on February 25, 1920. To this union, one daughter, Wilda, was born.
Besides the grief-stricken widow and daughter, he is survived by his aged father, Samuel Boatwright; three sisters Mrs. Opal Richards, Mrs. Ethel Phillips and Mrs. Annis Lewis, all of Stanberry; two brothers, John Boatwright of Stanberry and Walter of Randolph IA, besides a host of other relatives and friend to mourn his early going. His mother preceded him in death on December 31, 1926.
After a brief service at the family home in Grant City, funeral services were conducted at the Alanthus Baptist church by the Rev. Jesse Cunningham, last Thursday. Interment was in the Jennings Cemetery.
The John Edgar Vines Legion Post No. 92 conducted the closing rites.

James A. Boatwright passed away May 20,1973, at Emerals Terrace Nursing Home in Vancouver, WA, where he had resided the past two years.
The son of William G. and Della (Thompson) Boatwright, he was born Nov. 14,1886 at Stanberry, MO. His mother having passed away when he was a small child, he was reared by a loving stepmother, Nancy (Bradshaw) Boatwright.
He was married to Ada B. Walter Aug. 28, 1916.
They farmed in the Stanberry and Alanthus communities for 25 years before moving to Vancouver in January 1942. He worked in the Vancouver Shipyards during World War II and for the Vancouver Housing Authority. He retired in 1951.
Funeral services were held at Hamilton Mylan Funeral Home with Brother B.J. Barnes, minister of the Church of Christ officiating.

Wanda Mae (Kresge) Boatwright, 87, Lee's Summit, MO, passed away Monday, October 18, 2004. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, October 20, 2004, with funeral services at 11 a.m., on Thursday, October 21, 2004. Both will be at Mt. Moriah and Freeman Funeral Home, I435 and Holmes Rd., Kansas City, MO, 64131.

Wanda was born February 25, 1917, in Kansas City, MO. She was a graduate of Southwest High School, and Columbia College, Columbia, MO. She married Gerald E. Boatwright on August 10, 1940. She was a homemaker through out the mid-1960's, at which time she was employed by the IRS, where she retired in 1979. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Kansas City, MO, and a member of the Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by her parents Harvey A. Kresge and Evelyn Garrison Kresge, her husband "Jay", her sister Vivian Wilkins, and two brothers, Harvey A. Kresge, Jr., and William Kresge. She is survived by her daughters Joan McLain, Peculiar, MO, and Kathy Joyce and son-in-law John, Leawood; grandchildren John McLain, Katy McLain, Maggie Joyce, and Kelly Joyce; sisters-in-law Evelyn Catts, Vivian Davidson, Juanda Tamasi, and Eloree Baldwin; and many nieces and nephews and their families.
She had many friends from Bridge Clubs, IRS Retirement Group, John Knox neighbors, and her church. She will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved her.
