The only known relative of William Boatright was a half brother named Frank Boatright. William Boatright died 18 miles from home while moving and is buried in a cemetery near Fort Smith, Arkansas which is now under water.
5-18-1976 - Savannah (Mom) told this story to her daughter Mary... Her father's grandmother (a full Cherokee Indian) came over the Trail Of Tears from Georgia to Arkansas during the relocation of Indians. She met and married a German imagrant named Boatright. A son William, (father of Joseph) decided he would travel back to Georgia to claim his Indian Head Rights. He was old and not well. He took his youngest son, Lemuel, who was about 16 or 17 at the time. Word came back to Joseph Allen Boatright that William had died on the trail. He went to find his father and he buried him somewhere along the "Trail" to Georgia. No one knows where. It was an unmarked grave about 1900 or 1902.
Mary asked why or what brought the Boatrights and Aikman's to the Choctaw Nation. She didn't know except that it might have been because they just came with the Indians. Cherokee and Choctaw tribes were friends, but the Aikman's don't know.

It should be noted that before the removal of the Cherokee Indians from Georgia, much of the
Cherokee Nation was overrun by whites who had taken over lands in Georgia already granted to
white lottery winners in the Georgia Land and Gold Lotteries. Cherokees who had been moving
west since before 1800 were joined by an ongoing migration from the original Nation in the East.
A large number of Cherokees had moved into the Arkansas Territory and settled on either side of the Arkansas River between present Ft. Smith and Russellville. Most of the Cherokees already living around the "bootheel" of Missouri had moved to this area also. The boundaries were established by treaty with the United States in 1817. Most the the settlements were along either side of the Arkansas River (the southern boundary) and the White River (the northern boundary). The Arkansas Cherokee (aka Western Cherokee or Old Settlers) were forced to move again in 1828 to what is now Northeastern Oklahoma.

The only known relatives of Elizabeth Howell is that she had three sisters named Lizzie, Mandie and Bell and one brother named William (Bill) Howell. She is buried at Kiamichi, Oklahoma.
Three of their children of this union died at as babies. John William, Louis Calvin and a girl, name unknown.

Mrs. Mary Etta J. Boatwright was born in Charleston, Ill., on Jan. 6, 1861, and passed away at her home in McCracken on Sept. 21, 1946. She moved with her family to Missouri in 1968 when her father settled near Sparta as a homesteader. She was united in marriage to Christopher Boatwright in 1881 in Marysville, Kansas. She was converted early in life and united with the Sparta Baptist church. Surviving are three sons, James and Lon of McCracken, and Charley of Glasco, Kansas; four daughters, Mrs. Julia Bray, Mrs. Mamie Burnett of McCracken, Mrs. Vinnie DuBois of Kansas City, Kans., and Mrs. Anna Parks of Kansas City, Mo.; 21 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Emma Ellis of St. Anthony, Idaho. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon in the Linden Chapel by Rev. B.F. Ward. Burial was in the church cemetery under direction of Chaffin of Ozark.
