Robert G. "Jeter" was the oldest son of John Edwin & Francis Tatum. He moved to Waco, Texas about the same time Abyhugh moved to Texas. He made one trip back to Mississippi about 1872. The family did not hear from after that.

John Willis Boatwright was the only child from John Edwin's first marriage who was living when John Edwin died. Some of J.W.'s descendants live in Millington, TN and Germantown, TN. He served in the Mississippi House of Representatives for a number of years. He was a farmer who never wore work clothes because he said that was negroes work. As a little girl, I recall his walking the floor delivering speeches. He had a stroke and in his mind he thought he was back in the Legislature in Jackson. I was about five at the time."

Eddie Boatwright, died at age 70, retired from Frisco Railroad, was a Section Foreman for many years. He retired from active service when he became ill and moved to the Boatwright plantation. He died 15 months later. Funeral services were held at Temperance Hill Baptist Church where he was the Sunday School Superintendent for 25 years. Burial was in the Temperance Hill Cemetery.

descendant of John Boatwright:
Farmer & interest in government. Was self educated and stressed education to his children.
In December 1882, Bentley moved from Marshall Co., MS to McGregor, TX where he made his first crop in 1883. In January 1885, he returned to Mississippi and married Clarence Zillafro Ehrman on January 13, 1886. They moved to Hamilton County, Texas in 1887. He was a cotton farmer and self educated. He was most interested in world affairs: politics(democrat), schools(trustee) and religion(Baptist deacon). He was a strict disciplinarian and stressed honesty, strong character and taught the "Golden Rule" to his children. None of his thirteen children ever appeared in a court of law. He was a leading citizen in every community he resided in.
Bentley moved his family to Lamkin, Comanche Co., TX in 1892? where he continued farming & cattle raising. He owned land in Hamilton & Comanche Counties. Cecil was born in Stampede Valley, McLennan Co., TX. Julius Grover was born in Hamilton Co. Ted, Roger, Bell, Effie, Neva, Wade, Ursa, Cappie, Vesta, Doris and Audra were born in Comanche Co.
Lamkin, in Comanche County, was first settled in the 1880's and by 1884 had a post office. By 1890, it's population was 25 and served by a general store. The settlement was first located on the Leon River until a flood in 1908. It was then moved one-half mile north to its present site. A fire in 1922 destroyed most of the businesses in Lamkin and the town never really recovered.
The 1900 Comanche Co., TX Census shows a James Carson, age 69 born in SC, boarding with Bentley's family.

Interestingly, Theodore (Ted) Boatwright, son of Bentley, was the
Census Enumerator for Lamkin, Precinct 3, Comanche Co., TX in 1920. His
handwriting is easily readable, unlike alot of Enumerators. Bentley's
family is the first Household enumerated on page 1 with Cecil's family
second. Bentley's household at this time consisted of he & Clarence (his
wife) along with their children Theodore, Wade, Capitola (my grandmother),
Vesta, Doris & Audra. Cecil's family consisted of he & Eliza along with
son Wayne.
When Clarence died on May 6, 1922, Bentley sold out and the family was unsettled for a short period. The remaining children at home all married except Audra who finished school while living with Neva and went to work until she married.

Bentley was forced to repossess the farm he had sold in Hamilton Co. He sold the farm and bought a small place at Altmon, Texas where he lived alone. One Christmas day, he slipped on a moss covered rock while crossing a creek en route to a neighbor's house. He fell breaking his hip and was rendered an invalid for four and one-half years until his death on May 17, 1946. During these last years he suffered four surgeries having both legs amputated. He lived with Neva, Effie and Ursa while Cappie cared for him as nurse.
