Albert was my Great Uncle, and much beloved by my mother. He married Alice (Allie) Pankey and they had 5 children-Ruby, Horace, Opal, Mabel and Helen. Horace was a school teacher for many years & married Myra Hollingsworth of Bankston. Opal married Tommie Hollingsworth (Myra's brother), he was a farmer in Bankston. Mabel married Otis Reynolds of Brushy township, a farmer at that time, but later Deputy County Clerk. They had one child, William Brooks. No mention of a possible suicide was ever mentioned in private or any letters or ledgers that I have of the family. They're all buried in Old Brushy Cemetery in Harco, Saline County, Illinois.

There is no proven or researched link between Jessie and Lord Tennyson of England. John Sherman Boatright married Jessie Tennyson. She was the daughter of Gustavius Tennyson. Her grandfather, Martin Tennison, was born in North Carolina in 1800, so his parents, Jessie's great grandparents, were in the USA before 1800...therefore, Jessie was not the grand niece of Alfred Lord Tennyson who was born and lived in England. Lord Tennyson was born after 1800 and he did not have a brother Martin who was born in North Carolina. Sadly, I can see what someone put on Jessie's tombstone will mislead people for years to come!
By the way, Jessie did have an Uncle Alfred Tenison. (The name was originally spelled Tennison, and out of Martin Tennison's 11 children only Gustavius changed his spelling to Tennyson). Gustavius's brother, Alfred, moved his family to Carter and Bryan Counties in Oklahoma and died there in 1932. He even shortened his name to Tenison.
My Great- grandmother, Elizabeth Tennison, was a first cousin to Jessie Tennyson Boatright.

Alfred Tennyson, 1st Baron Tennyson, FRS (6 August 1809 – 6 October 1892), much better known as
"Alfred, Lord Tennyson," was Poet Laureate of the United Kingdom during much of Queen Victoria's
reign and remains one of the most popular poets in the English language.
Tennyson excelled at penning short lyrics, "In the valley of Cauteretz", "Break, Break, Break", "The Charge of the Light Brigade", "Tears, Idle Tears" and "Crossing the Bar". Much of his verse was based on classical mythological themes, such as Ulysses, although In Memoriam A.H.H. was written to commemorate his best friend Arthur Hallam, a fellow poet and fellow student at Trinity College, Cambridge, who was engaged to Tennyson's sister, but died from a cerebral hemorrhage before they were married. Benjamin Franklin Boatright, age 77, 1219 Kayton, died Tuesday at a local hospital. Survivors: Sons, J. P. Clifton, G. W. Bill, and Ben Boatright Jr., daughters, Mrs. H. T. Baylor, Mrs. F. A. Carrell, Mrs. Alma Crousen, Mrs. Fannie Roberts, Mrs. Martha English and Mrs. Jennie Light; 13 grandchildren. The remains will be taken overland to Houston, Texas for graveside services at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon at Woodlawn Gardens of Memories. Arrangements by Riebe Funeral Home.

Blame Arsonist for 5 Million Loss
Portland, Ore. August 24 (AP) An hourly air patrol of the waterfront and industrial districts was organized today in an attempt to apprehend an arsonist blamed for nearly $5,000,000 in fire losses throughout the Pacific northwest. Fire Chief Edward Boatright, claiming "convincing evidence" of attempted incendiarism here, said he expected to have 25 amateur and commercial fliers "practicing night flying over dangerous sectors." The incendiarist, striking invariably at industrial plants has caused havoc in Vancouver, Centralia, Kent, Seattle, Tacoma and Wenatchee, Washington; Boise, Idaho, and Hood River, Oregon. Boatright believes Portland is his next goal because of peculiar methods used in attempted waterfront fires here. "These fliers know the city like a book," Boatright said. "They know the location of every incenerator. Since burning permits aren't issued in dry weather, any blaze they see is important to us." Smoke from forest fires is the big problem. City lights are invisible from 2,000 feet.

Fire Occurs on Fireman's Holiday
Portland, Oregon (AP) Asst. Fire Chief Eddie Boatright was at home on his day off, taking it easy. His wife glanced out a front window of their home which overlooks most of the city. "You've got a fire on your hands", Mrs. Boatright announced. Boatright took a look for himself and saw clouds of smoke billowing from a waterfront box factory. He called the fire department with the first report of the blaze.
