8-337. JESSE STINSON BOATRIGHT (WILLIAM VAN RENSELEAR8, BENJAMIN BENONI7, JAMES6, BENONI5, JOHN4, JOHN3, JOHN2, Not Yet Determined1) was born 11 Dec 1830 in Madison County, Kentucky, and died 09 Nov 1905 in Wagoner, Wagoner County, Oklahoma. He married MARY EVELINE "MOLLIE" MILLER 22 Oct 1852 in Platte County, Missouri, daughter of ISSAC MILLER and ELIZABETH MARTIN. She was born 01 Mar 1837 in Cooper County, Missouri, and died 23 Jan 1910 in Wagoner, Wagoner County, Oklahoma.

Notes for JESSE STINSON BOATRIGHT:

Jesse Stinson Boatright

Jesse Stinson and Mary Evaline had sixteen children, all of whom lived to be married except John Lee who died in his teens. Jesse Stinson and his family left Platte County, Missouri about 1857, and went to Arkansas. About 1862, he moved to Texas, however, he returned to Van Buren, Arkansas about 1866. Later he moved to Wagoner, then Indian Territory, Oklahoma. Jesse taught school in his younger years, was also a merchant and an insurance salesman. In the 1890's he was secretary of the Watt's Association. It was here that he spent considerable time and money, as well as others of the family, in trying to prove the family had some Cherokee Indian blood which came through the Blackburn family of Virginia. However, being unable to establish proof, he was unable to be enrolled on the rolls of the Five Civilized Tribes which was then being revised. It was at Wagoner, Oklahoma that Jesse died November 9, 1905, and where he is buried. His wife, Mary Evaline, also died at Wagoner but the date of her death is unknown. Jesse S. Boatright was installed as Steward of Van Buren Lodge, No. 6, of F. & A.M. on Friday afternoon the 27th december at the Presbyterian Church.

Jesse Stinson Boatright moved from Missouri to Texas about 1860. In 1865 or early 1866, soon after the end of the War for Southern Independence, he moved to Van Buren, Arkansas, where he first went into the hotel business and later opened a general merchandise store on Log Town Hill, which is now part of Van Buren.

Jesse Stinson Boatright and Mary Eveline Miller About 1880-1882 he moved to Siloam Springs, Arkansas, where he lived for several years before returning to Van Buren about 1891. About 1895 he bought a farm two miles east of Wagoner, Oklahoma, and remained there until his death in 1905. The old home place is now under Fort Gibson Lake.

Jesse was a teacher, farmer, and businessman. He taught in several schools in and near Van Buren, including the old Broadway School which was located at the intersection of Broadway and East Main Street. Many of the Boatright children and grandchildren attended the old Broadway before it was demolished and replaced with the building now (1997) used as city hall.

Jesse Stinson Boatright Gravestone

He was especially proficient in penmanship and at times taught this art to adults in night classes. In the latter part of his life he was connected to the Watts Association, which was organized for the purpose of enrolling all persons of Cherokee blood who could be located. His wife, Mollie, was 1/32 Cherokee.

James Allen Boatright, who is living in Gassville, Arkansas, in 1997, has stated that he believes Jesse enlisted in the Confederate Army with his brother, Francis Alexander, but deserted shortly thereafter and "went to Texas", where he stayed until the end of the war. Some documentation indicates that this may be true, but it has not been confirmed as yet.

(Transcribed from original by Dennis G. Boatright)

(Transcription of a garbled letter by Jesse T. Roberts to Chester Howe, Attorney for Cherokee claims commission, from original material on file with National Archives, Fort Worth, TX. - D. G. Boatright)

Mr. Chester Howe, Atty. Eastern Cherokee Claims, Washington, D.C.

I am mailing to you an abstract of claims acted on and decided by the 4th Board of Comm. and accepted as Cherokees by Blood on the Rolls of 1835 as Eastern Cherokees…was furnished to me by ex-chief John Ross from his Father's Roll of 1835.

I also send you 8 true copies of affidavits of recognized Cherokee Indians in our case, the James Blackburn, Rhoda Blackburn (nee Baugh) and Polly Carter, their daughter who is on Roll of 1835. You will find on the Roll, Richard and Martha Blackburn who we suppose were James and Rhoda Blackburn’s grandson and daughter, the true copies of affidavits under seal of office was filed with the Dawes Comm. Sept. 10th 1896 with the case, as it was rejected, the case was appealed to the U.S. Court of the Western District of I.T., Muskogee, Judge Spri9nger, J. S. Boatright, being authorized agent of the Cherokee Indian Citizenship association & Atty…he laid the case before the Masters, they passed on the case a briefed it, the Judge would not sign it, saying we were non-residents, ignoring the decision of the Supreme Court of the U.S. that said the were Cherokee Indians let them reside where they may, so in the bounds of the U.S. and had indefeasable?? Rights to land & money of the Cherokee Nation, Indian Territory.

As Boatright had appointed me as his legal authorized agent, he wrote me he would appeal our case to the court of claims, he had about 1200 other claims he said he was not able to appeal all. Would make a test case of ours and asked my consent. I told him go ahead, it was some two year, he wrote me the Court had given a decision in our favor and had ordered the case filed with the Secretary of the Interior, he then wrote me as he was getting old and afflicted, he thought it best to turn over his claims to some other atty. and he spoke of M. M. Edmiston then of Viniti, IT, and did so, and recommended me to him as his authorized agent and he died not long after, as he had said the Court was behind two years or more, he did not expect to live to see it to an end. When the decision of Supreme (court) was given in favor of the Eastern and Western Cherokee 1905, and approved by Congress and appropriation made 1906, Edmiston wrote me sent me Power of Atty. for him and you with contract, doing away with all former contracts as I had got about 125 claims for Boatright – the letters commenced coming to me to take their claims at the 50% as they had agreed to give Boatright. I wrote Edmiston of their proposal to take their claims, he wrote me the 50% was too much…the government would kick he thought. Best for me and all to go ahead And get all the claims for him and you and you and him would allow me 10 percent of yours and his 25 percent which I agreed to. Is that right with you, that is for all that is allowed on any app. I got in 190 apps.

It does seem to me as this Blackburn, Baugh and Polly Carter Case has been passed on by the Masters, and Court of Claims, and as it was ordered filed with the Secretary of Interior. It probably was the Case carried to the Supreme Court of the U.S., that there should be any controversy about it.

(Note: the previous sentence was readable, but wording was confused, dgb.)

I have a Brief of our Case giving each family claimant, giving their relationship to James Blackburn, Rhoda Blackburn, nee, Baugh & Polly Carter which might be of benefit to you.

I have seen some few letters from Comm. Guion Miller asking questions two of his, one to Milbus Fuller of Liberty, Clay County, Missouri saying you (sic) claim to your Grandfather Richard C. Fuller of N.C. was enrolled in 1835. ( I do not find his name on Roll) I know his name on Roll of 1835. I send you, you can see for yourself.

in claim Nancy Lockard, nee Elliott, to her by Father, Arch Elliott of Tennessee, he says to her he fails to find his name on Roll of 1835 his name is there, I am sorry I have not got their no. on cars so I could give you the no. so that you could call his attention to it – I will get their no.’s so I can refer them to you.

My Mother, Eliza Roberts, nee Blackburn, her address was Moseby, Clay County Missouri, now Carthage, Jasper County, Missouri, never got her card with no. of claim.

Wm. L Roberts, Jr. of Moseby, Clay County, Mo. and his wife, Eliza Roberts, nee Dagby, Moseby, Clay Co., Mo. never got their cards (showing claim no.)…now of Harlem, Clay Co., Mo.

Charles H. Roberts of Elmira, Ray Co., Mo., never got his card. These cards never came to the offices. .. you can send their card no. & I will send to them…send all to me.

If any time I can give you any information, I will do so with pleasure. Address me at Elmira, Ray Co., Missouri.

Application No. 7297
Jesse T. Roberts

PS: Write me & let me know if you get all right. I send in two covers. M. M. Edmiston of Miami, Oklahoma requested me to send these papers.

REPORT ON BOATRIGHT CASES

Case No. 7053:

There are a large number of applicants who claim the right to share in the distribution of this fund through one James Blackburn, who originally resided in the state of Virginia, and through his two daughters, Elizabeth Boatright and Rhoda Patterson. It is claimed that James Blackburn was one-half or more Cherokee Indian by blood. It is alleged that James Blackburn came from Virginia to Kentucky about the year eighteen hundred and that he brought his family with him. After living in Kentucky a few years, he died. He was not enrolled in 1835 and probably was not alive as late as that, and of course was not enrolled in 1851, nor do any of his descendants appear to have been enrolled either in 1835 or 1851. Neither he nor is children were living within the Cherokee domain in 1835 or 1851. In fact, it does not appear that he ever lived within the Cherokee domain. On the contrary, his children and their children always lived with the white people and never had anything whatever to do with the Eastern Cherokee tribe of which they were probably never members. These persons seem to have no shadow of a claim as none of their ancestors were ever enrolled, or were parties to the treaties of 1835-6 or 1846. It does not appear that any ancestor ever lived within the Cherokee domain, and these applicants show no connection whatsoever with the Eastern Cherokee. Some members of this family applied for enrollment by the Dawes Commission and were rejected. For the reasons above, the applications of these parties are rejected.

Notes by R. G. Boatright:

Catherine Elizabeth Ruble (#41), daughter of Jesse, gave me the record of Jesse's children in 1928. She stated in her letter that she was the 14th child of a family of 16 children. She stated that her father moved to Arkansas from Platte County, Missouri in 1857. About 1862 he moved to Texas and then to Van Buren, Arkansas about 1866. He then moved to Wagoner, Indian Territory (Oklahoma), where he died in November 9, 1905.

Jesse taught school in his younger years before becoming a merchant and insurance salesman. In the 1890's he was secretary of the Watt's Association. It was during this period that he spent considerable time and money (his as well as that of other members of the family) trying to prove his Cherokee Indian blood which came through the Blackburn family of Virginia.

Jesse S. Boatright filed a claim to Cherokee Heritage with the Dawes Commission in 1896. It was apparently based on belief that James Blackburn's daughter, Elizabeth, had a half-sister, Polly Carter, enrolled on Rolls of Five Civilized tribes. The claim was rejected. I (RGB) well remember, when I was a small boy, my father, John W. Boatwright (#27), discussing this matter with the family many times. At one time he made a trip to Wagoner, which was then in Indian Territory to investigate the matter with his cousin, Jesse (#16), as well as others who were interested in the matter.

Middle name is "Stinson" (not Stevens) per Bob Oliver, descendant of William Van.

It should be noted that all sixteen of the children were by same parents and all lived to be married except John Lee who died in his teens.

From Malinda Fairall, Lansing, TN..."My gg-grandfather, Jesse Stinson, married my gggrandmother twice. He felt like the first marriage just wasn't right, so one day, he came into the kitchen where Evaline was washing dishes...Jesse had brought a preacher home and they got married again".

Jesse's birthdate shown as 11 Dec 1829 in 'Boatwright Family Bible' records.

The funeral of J. S. Boatright was held at 3 o'clock this afternoon at the family residence. Rev. J. N. Edwards, pastor of the Baptist church, conducted the service. The Masonic lodge took charge and conducted the burial services after the beautiful rites of that splendid and ancient order, of which the deceased was an honored member. The services were very largely attended, as Mr. Boatright was one of those men who attain a high place in the esteem of their community. His 76 years were well spent and he leaves an honored name and a life record without a flaw. Mr. Boatright was a icon of the pioneer stock whose sturdy manhood subdued a continent wilderness; whose inflexible moral fibre laid deep and broad the foundations of a great empire, and whose indefatigable energy built a society which has never had an equal in this world. The deceased leaves a family to perpetuate his name, and it is hoped to transmit his virtues, for his was a life well worth the living. His grave has a CSA Veterans marker (1861-1865).

Notes for MARY EVELINE "MOLLIE" MILLER:

Mary Eveline Miller Boatright

Notes by Malinda Fairall...

My gg-grandmother, Mary Evaline Miller, was one of four children of Isaac Newton Miller and Elizabeth Jane Martin. Isaac Newton died as a young man on the Santa Fe Trail. He was a wagoner. Elizabeth left her four girls in the care of her parents after Isaac died. One year after he died, she married a Mr. Jones. She had 5 or 6 children by this man. Mr. Jones died after a few years and then she died a year later. This left the kids to be raised by other family members. Isaac's girls were all married by the time they were 14 or 15 years old. One of the girls was married 3 times by the age of 21. She died soon after turning 21.

Mary Evaline applied for the Cherokee Rolls in 1906. In her statement, she mentioned that her father, Isaac, was part Cherokee. One source says that the Cherokee bloodline came through his father, Andrew Miller. Another source says that it came through Isaac's Mother, Nancy. In one source, it is said that Nancy was very beautiful and the daughter of a chief. Mary Evaline stated that Andrew, Peggy, Sarah and another sister, were enrolled. I have not been able to prove this, yet.

A picture provided by Malinda Fairall who states that Evaline was 1/4 Cherokee Indian. Application for DAWES Commission listing is on file in Archives in Fort Worth.

8-340. FRANCIS ALEXANDER BOATRIGHT (WILLIAM VAN RENSELEAR8, BENJAMIN BENONI7, JAMES6, BENONI5, JOHN4, JOHN3, JOHN2, Not Yet Determined1) was born 17 Jan 1838 in Garrard County, Kentucky, and died 27 Dec 1918 in Weleetka, Okfuskee County, Oklahoma. He married (1) ESTHER AMANDA CITRELL 22 Aug 1861 in Prairie County, Arkansas. She was born 19 Dec 1841, and died 11 Mar 1869 in Crawford County, Arkansas. He married (2) ELIZABETH ANN FRANCES DANIELS 22 Aug 1869 in Van Buren, Arkansas, daughter of EPHRIAM DANIELS and MARY PIERCE. She was born 30 Nov 1845 in Georgia, and died 24 Jan 1932 in Wagoner, Wagoner County, Oklahoma.

Notes for FRANCIS ALEXANDER BOATRIGHT:

Francis Alexander Boatright and Elizabeth Ann Frances Daniels In October, 1997, in a letter to her grandson, David Cary Rains, Verna Boatright Milstead writes, "My grandfather, Francis Alexander Boatright, was 13 years old when his parents.....left Kentucky in 1851, taking with them all of their children (12), who were all born in Kentucky, and moved to Missouri where they settled in Gentry County. A few years later, Francis Alexander and two of his brothers, Jesse Stinson and Joseph Marion, came to Arkansas and settled in Crawford County.

The Boatrights were pioneer families of Crawford County. Francis Alexander owned and farmed land in the Oak Grove vicinity. His specialty was growing and harvesting sweet potatoes- I wish I could remember the name of the potato. They were extremely large and a rich, red potato. He was referred to as the 'Sweet Potato King' of Crawford County. The farmers brought their produce into Van Buren on Saturday, parking their wagons at the head of Main Street next to the old Frisco depot. In the Van Buren Press-Argus centennial issue (Van Buren's only newspaper), there is a picture of the Saturday farmer's gathering and I am sure Grandpa's wagon was right there.

In about 1916, he sold the farm and moved to Wagoner, Oklahoma. to be near his youngest son. His health had been failing- he had a stroke and died on December 27, 1918.

When we first moved back to Fort Smith (in the early 1970's) your Grandad (James G. "Buck" Milstead) and I drove out to try and find the old farm, but, with so much pavement and new roads, it was a little difficult but, find it we did. We found the man who had bought the place. The old ranch house was gone, but the old red barn was still standing."

Francis Alexander served in the Army of the Confederacy. As near as can be determined from available records, he enlisted as a Private on June 27, 1862, and served for the duration of the war. He served the entire time in Companies "C" and "A" in what was variously known as McRae's Regiment, Glenn's Regiment, and Davie's Regiment.

Elizabeth Ann Frances Daniels This regiment was organized as the 28th Arkansas Infantry Regiment in July of 1862 under the command of Col. Dandridge McRae, and reorganized into the 36th Arkansas Infantry Regiment approximately in January of 1863. The regiment fought in the battles of Prairie Grove in December of 1862; Helena, Arkansas, in July of 1863; Little Rock, Arkansas, in September of 1863; The Red River Campaign in 1864; and Jenkin's Ferry in 1864. The regiment surrendered on May 26, 1865, and was disbanded.

The family was yet another example of the divisiveness and long lingering bitterness that resulted from the War for Southern Independence. Three of Francis Alexander's brothers served in the war. Joseph Marion enlisted in the 10th Arkansas Infantry, C.S.A., and was killed in service. William Taylor and Jacob Gates enlisted in the Union Army in Missouri. Both survived the war.

He married SARAH DAVIDSON in Andrew County, Missouri, daughter of ANDERSON DAVIDSON and NANCY KING. She was born 1840 in Tennessee, and died Dec 1900 in Andrew County, Missouri.

Notes for JOSEPH MARION BOATRIGHT:

Joseph Marion enlisted in the Confederate Army in DesArc, Arkansas, on September 3, 1861. He served as a Private under the command of Colonel T. D. Merrick, 10th Arkansas Infantry. He was killed in service in 1865 when he was 24 years old.

There is some confusion concerning exactly who Joseph Marion was serving with when killed. The 10th surrendered en mass at Port Hudson, La., on 07/09/63; however, after they were paroled and exchanged, the regiment was reorganized as Witt's Cavalry. It is unclear which unit Joseph Marion was with, possibly Witt's, when he was killed.

From Document by R. G. Boatright...

William Taylor Boatright was a Republican farmer and was possessed of a common school education. In 1864, when he was 17 years of age, he enlisted in Company "D", 43rd Infantry of Missouri which operated principally in that state. On October 15, 1864, during Price's Raid, he was captured at Glasgow, Missouri, but was soon paroled and sent to Benton Barracks near St. Louis, Missouri. Later he returned to St. Joseph, Missouri and subsequently assisted in Chasing "Bush-whackers". He was mustered out of the Civil War June 30, 1865. He returned to the farm where remained with his father until his marriage. He was a member of the John Goldy Post No. 90, GAR, of Milan, Kansas. He and his family came from Missouri to Sumner County, KS in 1884 and purchased a farm on which he lived until his death in 1933. He was considered one of the most progressive farmers in his community.

A letter that I received in 1945 from his son, John Taylor, stated that his father moved from Sumner County to Kingman County in 1901.

Notes for SALLY ANN BOATRIGHT:

From Document by R. G. Boatright:
In 1928, Lizzie Frank wrote me and said that she had been teaching Sunday School for a class of young women in Danville for almost 28 years. She said one of her first recollections was that of listening to Uncle John playing the violin (re: John Waller Boatwright, father of RGB).

She said that soon after the death of her mother, she and her sister, Mattie, were sent to a boarding school while they were still quite young. They remained there until graduation. She said that because of this separation, she knew very little about her mother's family.

NSDAR listing shows birthdate to be 1841.

In his younger years, John Waller taught school for a while...one term at "White Hall" in Garrard County, KY. He also studied surveying and did considerable work in that line throughout his life. After marrying in 1866, he built a house on a part of his father's (Benjamin Daniel Boatwright) old home-place where he lived until about 1877 when he sold it to his cousin, Mattie Wylie. He then purchased his father's place and lived there until 1882.

On October 30, 1882 he and his wife and their first seven children moved in a covered wagon to Ray County, Missouri and settled near Lawson. The next year, he purchased a farm in Anderson County, Kansas, near Lone Elm where he lived until 1888. He served as the postmaster in this home which was know as the "Old Equity" from 1884 to 1888. He sold this farm in the later part of 1887 and purchased one in Allen County, Kansas a mile south of the present town of Gas City. He was unable to take possession of this farm, for several months. He lived there until October, 1894 when he sold it and purchased another farm in Vernon County, Missouri, situated in Pleasant View School District, in Harrison township. He served a number of years as a member of the local school board and as theTownship Clerk and Assessor.

John Waller Boatright Gravestone:

In 1908, John and Frances sold their farm in Vernon county and purchased a farm about two miles north of Morrison, Oklahoma to be near some of their children. They lived there the remainder of their lives. They were both members of the Methodist Churchat Morrison, Oklahoma.

John Waller was always active and interested in political and community affairs. He was a Democrat and farming was his principal occupation. He was quite proficient in everything he undertook.

My father, John Waller Boat(w)right, retained the use of the "w" in his name during most of his life expecially when signing legal documents. However, in later life, he often dropped the"w". John Waller's father was a life long Republican. When John returned home after casting his first vote and said he had voted the Democrat ticket, his mother wept. She told him he had voted the "Rebel Ticket". He was, however, a Union man. At the closeof the War Between the States, he, like many others, joined the Democrat party during the Reconstruction days. He received most of his schooling at Kirksville, Kentucky, a small town in Madison County, Ky. He was an ardent student especially in ancient history, Geology, Geometry, Algebra and Arithmetic. Mostly of which he mastered alone. Nothing pleased him better than to get a problem that others had given up. He done most of the surveying in Madison and Garrard Counties for good many years before he left the state. He was a fine violinist either by note or ear. He began to play the violin at the age of six years. He taught several terms of school in Garrard and Madison Counties.

He lived about two miles about Paint Lick on the Old Bassett of Huff farm which he bought from his father. He was not in the Civil War but was a strong friend for the lost cause. He sold his farm in Kentucky to Hugh Parks (a cousin) on October 30, 1882. He left Kentucky and came to Ray County, Missouri where he live until until December 1883. When he moved to Anderson County, Kansas where he had bought a farm . He lived here until March 4, 1888 when he moved to a farm he traded for one mile of the present town of Gas City in Allen County, Kansas . In 1893 he traded for a farm in Vernon County, Missouri, where he moved. The farm being about four miles east of Garland, Kansas. While in Missouri he was assessor and clerk of Harrison Township. In 1908 he traded his farm in Vernon County, Mo. for a farm four miles north of Morrison, Oklahoma where he moved. He was a gentleman and scholar of the old school.

I do not like to be egotistical but he deserves all that is due him. Both he and his wife are buried in cemetery at Morrison, Oklahoma.

Under info about his father Benjamin it says" The Boatwright homestead is situated about two or three miles Northeast of Paint Lick, Ky, on the Paint Lick Berea highway. Current maps identify this highway as 21. I am assuming that the house remaining on route 21 is the one that John Waller bought from his father and is the one I visited nearly 25 years ago.

NOTE: Some of the dates and info in the following seem to indicate different "homesteads"

More data on the original homestead: (source: Jerry Boatright)

Copied from "James Boatwright Allen" by David Rains. According to Denny Boatright, the original Boatwright Homestead was purchased by Benjamin Daniel Boatwright, the youngest son of Benjamine (Benoni) and Elizabeth Blackburn Boatwright, on August 31, 1835. His mother, Elizabeth, lived in the house until she died in 1862. The property consisted of 175.4 acres and the log house and the sale is recorded in Madison County Deed Book W, page 100.

On June 30, 1852, the Homestead and property was deeded to Alexander A. Boatwright, another son, by the other children and heirs. Alexander was a widower at that time and lived with his mother, Elizabeth, and his daughter, Eliza Ann. Alexander was an ordained Baptist minister. The property and homestead were deeded to his daughter, who had married William Letcher Todd, upon Alexander's death in 1885.

After the death of Eliza in 1920, Madison County Deed Book 95, pages 327-329, indicate that the homestead was deeded to one of her sons, Thomas A. Todd. Todd and his family made the property their home until 1928 and also acquired an additional, adjoining 79.66 acre farm known as the "Miracle Place".

In 1928 the farm was sold to Thomas Todd's brother, George Boatwright Todd, as recorded in Madison County Deed Book 106, page 598. Todd apparently lived there until 1950 when the land was sold to Harold E. Richardson for $28,000. George as the last of the Boatwrights or their descendants to own the property.

On December 2, 1973, Richardson sold the farm to J.W. Ramsey for $102,000. During Ramsey's ownership, the old homestead went to ruin and the solid walnut logs were sold off. The only thing remaining is the main rock chimney.

Notes for LOUISA FRANCES "FANNIE" WYLIE:

Louisa Frances Fannie Wylie Boatright Gravestone:

From "The Name and Family of Wylie", compiled by R.G. Boatright, Cushing, OK, 1964:

Louisa Frances "Fannie" Wylie was educated in common schools at Paint Lick, Kentucky. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church until late in life when she united with the M. E. Church. She always loved to ride horseback using the old-fashioned side-saddle. She died of pneumonia at Morrison, Oklahoma and is buried there beside her husband.

All the children of John and Fannie except the last two were born at Paint Lick, Madison Co., Kentucky. The last two were born in Anderson County, Kansas near Lone Elm.

"I (Robert Guy) I have heard my mother say many times that her father's grand-mother Wylie was of Irish descent and that she died and was buried at sea on the way from Ireland to America. This appears to clarify why there was never any mention of a wife of John Wylie, Louisa's great-grandfather as he moved from Pennsylvania to Virginia, to Kentucky."

IN MEMORIUM (from Morrison, OK newspaper):
Louisa Frances Wylie was born August 10, 1844 , in Garrard county, Kentucky. She was united in marriage Feb. 8, 1866, to John W. Boatright and resided in Kentucky for sixteen years, after which they moved to Mo., and then settled near Morrison six years ago. To this union nine children were born - six sons and three daughters, seven of whom survive her to mourn her loss:

Rodney Boatright, Bronson, Kansas
Morris H., of Morrison
John W., of Garland, Kansas
Emmett W., of Moundville, Mo.
Robert Guy, of Cushing, Oklahoma
Mrs. Sallie Olmsted, of Morrison
Mrs. Lucy Hilton, of Pittsburgh, Kansas.

Also, twenty-two grandchildren and five great grandchildren. In early life she gave God her heart and united with the M. E. Church and lived and died in the faith of Jesus Christ as her Savior. Since the death of her husband two years ago, she has made her home with her daughter, Mrs. G. W. Olmsted.

She had been in failing health for more than a year and became worse, being confined to her bed since January 12. She bore her sufferings patiently, gradually growing weaker until she was called to meet her Savior in the Great Beyond on January 26, 1915, aged 70 years, 5 months and 16 days.

Funeral services were held at the M. E. Church at Morrison, on Wednesday of last week at 3 o'clock, P.M., Rev. Cooprider officiating. Interment in the Morrison cemetery.

Servant of God, well done!
Thy glorious warfare's past.
The battle's fought, the race is won,
and thou art crowned at last.
Let Faith exalt her joyful voice,
and now in triumph sing:
'O, Grave, where is thy victory?
and where, O, death, thy Sting?'
