He married WUANITA McDONALD. She was born 1929 in Alabama, and died 20 Mar 1954 in Colbert County, Alabama.

Notes for CLARENCE C. BOATRIGHT:

FAMILY OF EIGHT WIPED OUT IN FIRE

Five children and three adults who died in a flash fire that swept through their new home at Sheffield early Sunday were buried together Monday.

The Sheffield blaze wiped out the entire family of Clarence C. Boatwright, 36 year old ornamental iron worker. Dead were Boatwright, his 25 year old wife; Mrs Clara McDonald, 59, her mother; and the Boatwright children -- Wanda, 7; Glenda Gail, 6; Clarence Rickie, 5; J.T., 4; Stephen, 2.

Bodies of the eight victims were carried in five hearses to their graves after funeral services were held at 3pm.

Wanda was found lying outside the burning home after the blaze was discovered by a neighbor. Heroic neighbors and firemen risked their lives to carry the other children and Mrs. McDonald from the house.

Mrs. McDonald, Wanda, Glenda, and Clarence died within a few hours at a hospital. Stephen and J.T. were dead when removed from the house. The bodies of the parents were found in their bed.

Sheffield Fire Chief James Tirey crawled into a bedroom while other firemen sprayed water on the flames around him and found Stephen and J.T. lying on a burning bed.

As he picked them up he heard groans and found Charles beneath it.

All of the bodies were described as badly burned.

The Boatwrights moved into the five-room frame house only the day before, and Mrs. McDonald was spending the night with them.

Chief Tirey said the fire apparently started near the parents' bed, possibly from a cigarette, and smothered them. The blaze built up heat and then flashed through the wall-papered rooms.
