Charlotte News, Oct. 16, 1933, gave report of finding his body on Monroe Road early that morning. His pistol was beside him. His age is listed as 72.
Death certificate lists his birthdate as Jan. 14 1861. 1900 Census says Feb. 1862.

Funeral Services for Washington Leander Boatright, retired merchant who died suddenly at his home on North Fifteenth Street at noon Saturday, were conducted at the First Baptist church at eleven a. m. today, with the pastor, Rev. R. K. Benfield, officiating. The body lay in state at the church for an hour prior to services.
Burial with Masonic honors followed in Oakwood Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were J. M. Cox, W. H. Lutz, H. C. Lutz, W. L. Clinard, W. A. Carpenter, and Dr. E. J. McCoy.

Mrs. W. L. Boatwright, eighty-one, one of Hickory’s older residents, passed away shortly after one o’clock this afternoon at the home of a daughter, Mrs. H. A. Wise, at 509 Fourth Street, NW.
She had been an invalid since the day following Christmas, when she fell and broke a hip.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete, pending arrival here of another daughter, Mrs. H. A. Christianson, who is enroute from her home in Fair Hope, Ala.
Other survivors are Mrs. Wise and three sons, Robert T. Boatwright of Conover, Harold Boatwright of Shelby and Max Boatwright of Danville, Va.
Mrs. Boatwright was a native of Arkansas, Va., but moved to Hickory fifty three years ago. Mr. Boatwright has been dead for eight years.

Thomas' occupation was a bottling works manager in the 1910 Census. It was probably a Coco Cola Bottling Plant. Virginia Brown from North Carolina who descends from Thomas Jefferson said that the Thomas came back to North Carolina due to a possible Coke franchise.

Funeral Services for Thomas W. Boatright, well known resident of Hickory for forty five
years, who died at his home, 725 Fifth Avenue, SW, Sunday morning, following several
months of declining health, were held this afternoon at 3:00 in the chapel of Shuford
Funeral Home. The reverend W. W. Williamson, pastor of the First Presbyterian church of
Hickory, was in charge. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery.
Mr. Boatright was born in Monroe, North Carolina, May 10, 1877. He was one of the first soft drink bottlers in North Carolina and operated the first five and ten cent store in Hickory. He was the son of the late Thomas Jefferson and Mattie J. Stevenson Boatright.
He is survived by his wife, the former Miss Ollie Moose; one daughter, Mrs. Ruth B. Andrews and one granddaughter, Miss Sylvia Andrews, all of Hickory.
