Francis Marion Boatwright attended school at Tabernacle. He served as supervisor of Registration for Marion County from 1923 until his death on Dec. 3, 1958. Mr. Marion was a hard working man. He grew tobacco, cotton, corn, and sugar cane. He was definitely in charge of his household, and was a good provider to their 9 children.
About two or three years before his death, he told his son Percy, that he would give anything in the world just to be able to communicate with Miss Sue.(She had died in 1952).I think that I realized then just how much that he loved his wife." - David Boatwright, grandson.
Francis Marion Boatwright died at Florence hospital after a brief illness December 3.
He was born Sept. 10, 1874 the son of the late Robert and Jeanette Davis Boatwright. He was a retired farmer of Friendship community, Marion County. For the past few years he made his home with his daughters, Mrs Jack W. Price and Mrs. Blanche Kennedy, near Darlington. He was a member of Centenary Methodist church for years and was at the time of his decease.
During the year of 1914 he served as magistrate in Marion county. Since the year 1922, he was a member of the board of registration serving as chairman most of the time.
Always keenly interested in the welfare of his county, state and country he never missed casting his ballot for what he thought and believed to be best for its welfare. Source: David Earl Boatwright, grandson.

Notes for SUSAN REBECCA ROWELL:
Sue was the daughter of Julius David and Annie Glisson Rowell. She married Francis Marion Boatwright on November 14, 1900. They had nine children.
Sue broke her hip in 1942. She stayed in the hospital for two months and never walked again. She was very gentle and an extremely good mother and grandmother. She always had a smile for everyone. Her favorite hymn was "In the Garden". - Source: David Earl Boatwright, grandson.
