Funeral services for James C. Boatright, 80, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday (today) at Mountain Springs Church with the Rev. Roy E. Galyean of Gravette officiating. He died at his home Sunday, in the Buckeye community near Hindsville, AR. Burial will be at the Boatright cemetery nearn Mountain springs with the Brashears Funeral Home in charge. Mr. Boatright was born Nov. 3, 1879, in Madison County, the son of John C. and Martrha Renfro Boatright. He had spent his entire lifetime in this county, and had been a member of the Missionary Baptist Church for 60 years.
Survivors include his wife, cora, of the home; five sons, Mark Boatright of Brea, Calif.,
Hubert Boatright of Norwalk, Calif. Dan Boatright of Hindsville, and Gus Boatright of
Huntsville; sis daughters, Mrs. Mary Kotting of Huntington Park, Calif., Mrs. Alice Witt and
Mrs. Pearl dutton of Hindsville, Mrs. Clara anningham of Springdale, Mrs. May Williams of
Salinas, Calif and Mrs. Ruby Tucker of Bell, Calif; three
brothers, J.J. Boatright of Fayetteville, Freeman Boatright of Elkins, and Sherman Boatright of
Little Rock; on sister, Mrs. Dollie Rough of Hindsville; 41 grandchildren and 22 greatgrandchildren.
Pallbearers will be dewayne Witt, Edward Boatright, Lee Roy Boatright, Glyndon Williams,
Earl Dutton and Lewis Lanningham.

It is interesting to note that the Boatright Family Reunion is held every year on the Sunday nearest Jerdon’s birthday at Fayetteville. A good number of Boatright’s attend, even coming from as far as western Texas.
Jerdon and Della lived on the old home place which belonged to his father until 1957 when they sold the farm to Everett Watson and moved to Fayetteville.

Notes for JOHN SHERMAN BOATRIGHT:
Tombstone inscription provided from cemetery survey by David M.Boatright indicates that part of tombstone inscription reads, "Private, U.S. Army, World War I."
He was wounded in World War I, and was in the Veterans Hospital at old Fort Root, North Little Rock Arkansas Pulaski County, from about 1931, until about 1968.
He never married.
John Sherman Boatright served as a private in company ”L” 60th infantry in the U.S. army in W.W.I. He enlisted May 26, 1918 at Huntsville AR. He is listed as being involved in a battle, engagement, skirmish or expedition, on Oct. 8 1918. He was shot in the left shoulder. Discharge papers state that he left the U.S. in July 1918 and arrived back April 25, 1919, his physical condition was listed as poor. He had been taken P.O.W. by the German army. He arrived back in the U.S. in Des Moines, Iowa. He was released to his brother Jerdon, they rode the train back into Fayetteville Arkansas, then went back to his home near Huntsville Arkansas.
Some years later he had to be taken to the V.A. hospital in Little Rock Arkansas. Apparently his war experience had greatly traumatized him. His brother Jerdon told of the nights that were spent holding his bedroom door shut because he “was going to kill Jerdon”. At times even some of the neighbors would have to be called to help keep him in his room. He would keep knives sharpened, and even dug graves in the woods behind their house, one of which he said was for Jerdon. This is especialy sad as the two of them had been very close. After the “fits” at night he would be fine the next day, but it was clear that something was wrong. Finally their mother told Jerdon, “son, you’re going to have to ride into Huntsville and get the sherriff to come and get him, else he’s going to kill you, and I will lose you both.” The next day Jerdon did as his mother had said. She never saw Sherman again.
Jerdon did not have a vehicle of his own (he didn’t drive) and requests for a ride to Little Rock to see his brother were met with answers such as “you shouldn’t go down there, it wouldn’t be good for him”. It was 1948 before he saw his brother again. He got a ride to Little Rock, taking his oldest daughter Hazel, with him.
When they arrived, there was a long line of men going to the “mess Hall” Hazel, having never seen him, pointed to a man who looked like her father and said “is that him daddy?” sure enough, it was. He fell out of line and came over to them. He looked at Jerdon and said, “you sure took a long time to come see me.” After that, several trips were made to see him by Jerdon and his family, until Sherman was taken back to Fayetteville in 1968. He died there in 1976.

Mrs. Dora B. Boatright, 93, lifetime resident of Coleman, passed away Wednesday, January 16, 2008.
The family will receive friends from 6:00pm to 7:00pm Thursday, January 17, at Walker Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be at 2:00pm Friday, January 18, at Walker Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Louise Strength officiating.
Dora was born March 27, 1914 in Gouldbusk, Texas and married the late Hardy Boatright December 22, 1932. He preceded her in death in 1982. She was a housewife and member of the Bible Baptist Church (formerly Commercial Avenue Baptist Church).
Survivors include: four sons - Carroll Boatright of Coleman, Philip Boatright of Humble, Texas, Richard Boatright of Brownwood and Joe Boatright of Fort Worth; sister - Lucille of Fredericksburg; numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, 1 son, Delbert A. Boatright, parents, 12 brothers and sisters, two granddaughters - Susan and Kaylynn, one grandson - Charley Wayne Boatright, one great-grandson - Charley Wayne Boatright, Jr.

He has been a self-employed logger, farmer and worked at Robbers Cave State Park, retiring from Latimer County road work. Guy resides at Latimer Nursing Home. Guy married Dora Boatright January 21, 1928, at Gowen.
Dora, the daughter of Dee Witt Boatright and Etta Mae Rogers, was born May 29, 1911, at Roseville, Arkansas, and traveled to Wilburton by covered wagon at a young age. Dora's family wee coal miners. Dora is deceased, March 20, 1989.
Guy and Dora have five children and also raised one nephew:

Jake married Alice Joyce Wynn of Wilburton October 24, 1957. They have three children, Terri Lynn, Tina Louise and Douglas James. Jake has since married Rosemary Etheridge may 1, 1975. Rosemary was born in Decatur, Alabama, moving to Arlington, Texas at nine years of age.
Shirley married Ronald D. Akers of Wister, Oklahoma, April 16, 1959. They have two children, Sherry Deniece and Steven Ronald.
Irene married Charles Lowell Sallee of Catoosa, Oklahoma, April 14, 1959. They have four children, Tracy Allen, Tammy Charlene, Robin Wade and Teresa Lynn.
John Reynolds married Helen Louise Step of Tehachapi, California, December 10, 1955. they have four children, Karen and Sharon (twins) Jerry and Lonnie.
There are 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren at the present time.

Chesley R. Boatright passed away Nov. 4, 1980 at the age of 63. He was born June 23, 1917 in Paris, AR, he worked as a laborer and was a member of the Degnan Undenominational Church. He also served in the Army during World War II.
Services will be held Nov. 7, 1980 at 2:00 p.m. at the Degnan Undenominational Church with Rev. J. L. Jones officiating. Interment will follow at the Centerpoint Cemetery under the direction of Jones Funeral Home.
Survivors of Mr. Boatwright include two sisters, Mrs. Dora Ward of Wilburton and Mrs. Ruby Thompson of Hartshorne; and one brother, Elmer Boatright of Broken Arrow.

William E. Boatright, 91, of Springdale, died Dec. 9, 1988, at a local nursing home. He was born March 31, 1897, in Madison County, the son of Henry and Hattie Williams Boatright. He was a caretaker of Friendship Cemetery Association and a member of the Friendship Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Ann (Boyd) Boatright, on Nov. 4, 1977. She was born Mar. 7, 1896.
Survivors include one son, William Vernon Boatright of Springdale; one daughter, Delpha Lea Davis of Huntsville; three brothers, Raymond Boatright of Huntsville, Ernest Boatright of Kilgore, Texas, and Herman Boatright of Farmington; three sisters, Sylvia Burford of Las Vegas, Nev., Mildred Wood of Springdale and Dorothy Chaffin of Santa Rosa, Calif.
Services were at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 13, at Sisco Chapel in Springdale with the Rev. Burton Miley officiating. Burial was in Friendship Cemetery.

SPRINGDALE — Bertha Gladys Boyd Boatright, age 102, left her earthly home to go to her heavenly home Sunday, Sept. 19, 2010. She was born Aug. 7, 1908, in Wesley, Ark., to Virgil and Emma (Neal) Boyd.
She is a member of Farmington Church of Christ, worked at the canning factory in Wheeler and also at Arbor Acres in Tontitown. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and visiting with friends. She loved to cook for visitors and made wonderful chicken and dumplings, biscuits and gravy and butterscotch pies. Living alone until the age of 101, she then moved to Shiloh Health and Rehab for the rest of her life. We will miss you, Ma Maw.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and six siblings, Olan Boyd, Reba Boyd Bird, Louetta Boyd Mabry, Vernon Boyd, Gayther Dunlap and Walter Dunlap; children, Lorna Keeney Thomas, Emma Frances Ratlift Hale, Zoal "Bub" Ratlift ; a grandson, Larry Thomas; and a great-granddaughter, Kimberly Crawford.

Blanch Hunter Boatright, 93, entered the presence of the Lord on January 14, 2010 at 2:32 p.m. in Dallas.
Mrs. Boatright was born July 23, 1916 in Malakoff, the 11th of 11 children born to the late Daniel Luther Hunter and the late Edna Adelia Fulks Hunter.
She married the late Rev. Henry Ernest Boatright on May 27, 1931, beginning their ministry together that would last for the next 68 years. They originally began as evangelists, and later would become pioneer ministers for the Assemblies of God. Together they would begin 10 new works, pastor 21 established churches and reopen 15 churches.
She is survived by 2 sons; Rev. Melvin Boatright and his wife Bessie of Gilmer, Paul Boatright and his wife Sandy of Newellton, LA; 3 daughters, Jean Boatright of Grand Prairie, Edna Ruth Beggs and her husband Rev. Max Beggs of Amarillo, and Glenda Hall and her husband, Rev. Leland Hall of Grand Prairie.
Also by 2 daughter-inlaws; Margaret Boatright of Gun Barrel City, Lanell Boatright of Tyler, 18 grandchildren; 42 greatgrandchildren and 6 greatgreat grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Daniel Luther Hunter and Edna Adelia Fulks Hunter; husband of 68 years, Rev. Henry Ernest Boatright; children; Joseph Wade Boatright of the home, Rev. Thurman Boatright of Gun Barrel City, Floyd Boatright of Tyler; 2 grandchildren; Michael Boatright of Shreveport, LA, Pam Sepmoree of Tyler; greatgrandchildren; Joshua and Luke Laney of Tyler.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, January 16, 2010 at Full Gospel Assembly, 702 Kings Highway, Kilgore, Rev. Earl Teeter and Rev. Barry Boatright officiating. Burial will follow in the Rusk County Memorial Gardens. Arrangements under the direction of Guerrero-Dean Funeral Home
